This Week on Musicians Radio.com
We used to buy books in the local music stores.  Method books.  Back then there were no instructional DVD's,  If you wanted to find out how something might be played, learn a new technique, song, or scale, you would go to the music store and buy a book.

Sometimes they would be kind of boring or  too technical. Certain books however, were a cut above - written by pros - guys who made records; musicians that everyone knew.  I remember one of those books very clearly. It was called The Evolving Bassist  by Rufus Reid.  Everyone knew who Rufus Reid was. He had played with numerous big names in jazz like Eddie Harris, Kenny Burrell, and Dizzy Gillespie.  In 1974 that book really stood out because it was written by a guy who, at a very young age, had already made a big impact on the scene.  Thirty-three years later that book is still going strong and so is Rufus Reid.

And so,

This Week On Musicians Radio...

My guest is Rufus Reid truly a legendary jazz bassist. We'll talk about his new CD / DVD  "The Rufus Reid Quintet Live at The Kennedy Center".

We'll also discuss a few of those legends he's worked with, his thoughts on composing, improvising, and of course his book The Evolving Bassist which now has a DVD version... Still going strong.

Then we'll go behind the scenes and into the world of Ralph Carney.  As a member of Tom Waits' band or leading his own improvisational ensemble - Carney Ball Johnson, Ralph has had a wide range of musical experiences.  He'll talk about some of his more peculiar gigs.

Now some news. Good news. Our link at iTunes has been restored. If you were one of the nice folks who e-mailed us wondering what was wrong, I apologize for any inconvenience.  So if you use your iTunes to get the podcast you will find everything in working order now.

If you missed last week's show,  go to www.musiciansradio.com where you can download or stream it.  It's our Good Advice show.  We assembled a group of rock stars, jazz giants, punk icons, film composers, song writers, producers etc. and asked them all for some good advice for people interested in music or the music business. A Greek philosopher once said "Many receive advice, few profit by it"  and that may be true but on Musicians Radio at least it's very entertaining.

In the next few weeks some of our up-coming guests will be: Chris Hillman, Julia Fordham, Chris Pierce, Tom Ball, Kenny Sultan and more...

Musicians Radio airs this Sunday on XMPR channel 133 at 5pm pacific 8 pm eastern.

Thanks and have a great week.

Peace,

Kevin
